Greetings from your new President, Amy Klusmeier! I hope to post regular updates on board activities going forward so stay tuned to the website for more information.
The SWTU Board of Directors had its first meeting of the 2018 – 2019 season on Tuesday, September 4. Treasurer Tom Parker spent most of the meeting summarizing the 2018 budget and leading the Board in a detailed discussion of the preliminary 2019 budget. Following that review, the Finance Committee will review and recommend action on the 2019 budget. The Board will act on the budget at the September 25, 2018 meeting.
The new budget will have the Chapter support projects on Black Earth Creek, the Sugar River, Kittleson Creek, Story Creek, the West Fork of the Kickapoo, with funds reserved for a request from the Nohr Chapter for their continued work in the Blue River watershed. As of our September 4 meeting the DNR and Dane County have not been able to assess flood damage to area streams and decide if the Chapter can help remediate that damage.
One big change that our Treasurer, Tom Parker, shared is that TU national is changing the timeframe for our fiscal year. Currently we are on an October 1 – September 30 fiscal year. In 2019 we will be moving to an April 1 – March 31 fiscal year. This will have some administrative implications for the chapter; primarily the creation of two budgets and two annual reports in 2019.
A big thanks to our Secretary Topf Wells for taking notes at the meeting, and to Smart Motors for donating the space for our board meetings! Our next meeting is scheduled for September 25, 6:00 – 7:45 pm at 5901 Odana Road Madison, WI 53719.
The board is also working on planning the Nash Williams Award Banquet on October 11, 2018. Tickets are now available – get yours here or at the September 13 Chapter Meeting. We look forward to a wonderful evening of music by the Blackhawk Bluegrass Band, food courtesy of 608 Community Supported Kitchen, beverages from Ale Asylum and of course celebrating our local champions of coldwater conservation. See our website homepage and facebook event for more details.
