By Tom Thrall
The creator of this unique project is James Edward Mills. He is a nationally known journalist and is a Nelson Institute lecturer among many other things. He lives here in Madison. He is also a passionate fly fisher. This is a national program who’s goal is to encourage and train Black Men to get out in nature and enjoy our public lands.
The theme is, “Where do I as a black man, fit in nature? How do we hold space in nature for our next generation of young men?”
James was here in Madison for a national showing of a film he produced which is being shown around the country. Read More

You can help! Short-term Volunteer Opportunities
Your chapter needs volunteers to join the fundraising event team, without which we may not be able to host another fun and social event in the Spring of 2024.
Also, your board wants to improve the chapter’s communication skills. To achieve this, we are forming a communications team which needs your help to expand reach and impact.
Both teams have a short window of commitment.

Fall Weather Brings Fall Stream Workdays
Last Updated: December 5, 2023 by Drew Kasel Leave a Comment
Everyone (yes, you!) can find a role at our Stream Team workdays. They are a great opportunity to do some good, make new friends and look with interest on a stretch of water you’ll be back to drift a fly over.
We have a marvelous schedule lined up and details still being finalized … we’ll share the exact “where” and “what” closer to the dates. Rest assured, we’ll be where the work is needed.
Please save the dates below. Jim Hess, Conservation Chair, did his best to schedule around fall events like Badger home games, Thanksgiving and hunting season. These are all Saturdays and the work goes from 9 to about Noon. Read More

By Matthew Sment
Now in it’s 14th year of empowering woman anglers through outdoor education, the Women’s On the Water Skills Intermediate Clinic (WOWSKI) grew to new heights in 2023. This standout program pairs enthusiastic woman anglers with volunteer guides on streams in the heart of Wisconsin’s Driftless region. The clinic offers students three on the water sessions where they can tune up their skills, decide which they want to build, and then work with the guides to strengthen them. (Be sure to see all the great photos below.) Read More
